If you have a hose reel you also need a cord reel.

Also to state the obvious. VIDMARS.

And of course, a complex tablesaw blade storage system is essential for any functioning shop.

one simple things is a pair of good carts, or tables on wheels. Now I am not talking about an old door with some caster on it. For years I rolled around on variouse carts of all sized and designs. All home made nd not very well at that. What has changes my shop is two, steel tables 5' long and 30" wide. Both were commercially made with good casters and a firm flat work top. They are a great thing around the shop.

A second thing that has changed the shop is a simple roll of paper. I got some brown craft paper from uline. it has a stand to hold the roll on the wall. The paper has a waxed back, so it id essentially water/ oil resistant. I tear off apiece to place under a glue up, or under a finishing job. Roll a claen piece out onto a nice work table for some final assembly work. Very low start up cost on the paper plan for the shop.

I didn't know it could be called a shop if it didn't have a hammond in each corner

At this point I can't work without my starrett hook rules- both 6" and 12" with satin chrome finish.

vidmars are a luxury, but still an improvement if not a necessity, enough already about the "complex" blade storage, what could be simpler than a box with 1/4" shelves, oh yeah must be the grooves

using a drywall srew in my opinion would to be secure drywall in place, not a faux "pegboard" blade storage, what next... "slatwall" in the workplace? we are creative folks, com'on junkies lets keep it real, unless you operate a "busy" shop" "pegboard" belongs over grandpa's bench in the basement

The best thing I've found as of late has nothing to do with woodworking, So it is useless the better majority of you. My absolute favorite item is a Procunier Tapping Head. I was tapping 3/8" - 16 holes in steel yesterday, simply awesome. 4 holes in 15 seconds. Automatic reverse at twice the speed, clutch in both forward and reverse, too easy and way too cool. I can barely hand tap any more

three more:
You have satellite radio, I have iPod. Can't work without, Don't know how I survived without.

Electric pencil sharpener. I like pencils, and I sharpen them frequently.

New safety glasses, I forget how quickly they become scratched. i try to get a pair a year minimum.

One of the best things I've seen in a long time is the tape measure with a built in pencil sharpener & small note pad. Been using them since they first came out and lost my last on the other day. Forgot how convenient it was. Ordered 1/2 dozen the next day.
