Drilling/tapping holes to mount miter gauge?

Has anyone considered drilling and tapping some holes on the rear part of the sliding table in order to mount a miter gauge like the Incra 1000HD or Jessem Mite-R-Excel II? Of course you would have to remove the gauge from the slide and get your measurements from there.

Looks like someone did...although it seems to be a gross waste of table space.
