FINALLY FOUND A G4B

Post by fritz Dornan »

Hello all,

My first post was one year ago and I have been looking for a Glider sence then.I have finally found a G4B close to home and the bonus is that it is in nice shape not pristene, but not rusty and abused, it is compelate with a few scraps of led type under the sliding table!!. I am really exctied to get it up and running later today. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone here could answer. The serial number is 5742 any idea when it was made? It has the goose neck light with no metal shade any Idea where one could be purchased? Lastly, has anyone made a new scale in inches? if so I would like to purchase one if anyone would care to make one.

Thank you ,

Fritz

Hi Fritz,

Congrats on getting a saw. As mentioned, yes, post some pictures. I never get tired of looking at them.

Here are some threads on inch conversion

I have never had a great grip on exact dates. Perhaps one day I will be able to research this further.

Not sure where to find an extra shade, but I seem to remember one kicking around my attic. I will look tomorrow.

Pete,
Thank you for the reply. I will take some photos in the AM and post them. the saw was removed from service a few weeks ago and was put up for sale last Wedensday. I checked Craigs list on Thursday and low and behold there it was I could not get there fast enough. After looking the saw over more carefully once I got it to the shop there does not appear there is anything that needs repair or replacement. The table slides smothly and quietly the blade raised and lowers with no effort, and most importantly the motor and arbor spins with unusual no noise or vibration. Other than the metal shade for the light and new inch rule It is good to go. There is a high quality carbide tipped blade that procuces a polished cut across the face but does create more chipping on the exit of the cuts than I like to see This is because of the netural hook angle. I will get it sharpened and see how it preforms before I buy a new Forrest blade $118.00 plus $10 to ship. I am smitten and struck by how well and built the saw really is....I love it. Oh and by the way they are HEAVY as all get out.

Regards,

Fritz

Hi Fritz, I checked my stash and found what I am pretty sure is a hammond G4 lampshade.

I am willing to sell it to you, but would advise you to only buy it if you are using the saw for cutting type. For woodworking, the light totally gets in the way- unless of course you are working on minute parts.
