I have been thinking about the upcoming move into the new shop and over-analyzing my layouts of machines and am curious if anyone has found good solutions for corners- they are giving me grief.
I have plenty to fill in both the woodshop and metalshop.

Shop Layout: what do you do with the corners?
Moderator: crzypete
Most of the shops I've been in used the inside corners for wood or junk storage. Since I haven't built a 5 star shop with all the bells and whistles like you and Nico, my cost per square foot is way to high for wood or junk storage. That cost is not in dollars, but frustration. I just recently came to that realization and now I'm a better person. Well... at least I'm not tripping over stuff anymore.
In my shop I have a drill press, grinder, clamp storage, and a lathe. The drill press and grinder are on wheels, and I'm frequently pulling them out. In fact the drill press stays out and is shoved in the corner when I need the room. The only tool that really works is the lathe. I have the drive end in the corner and I never do outboard work, so it's perfect.
Long and short of it is, no tool is good in a corner but some fit better than others. If you think you'll be pulling it out often, put wheels on it.
Hope it helps,
Stephen
