Nektai's New Studio
Moderator: crzypete
I am happy to report that after a summer slow down we will be making progress again. It is nice that my new period of activity coincides with Crzys inactivity.
The building has been insulated, passed the required inspection and the 5/8" sheetrock has been loaded.
The rockers had been going through a down time and as a result had been chomping at the bit to get into my job so they could show up today if they did not scare up another job.
Fingers crossed
I hope everyone is well and enjoying nice weather

it looks like you have BEAUTIFUL shop. i'm dirty, tired and body hurts everywhere. Mr. Douglas came by for 2 long hard days and we managed to palletize and skid all the heavy equipment for the big move. Sorry no photos, maybe tomorrow shots of the equipment and pallets. I hope it will al fit in the truck I have my doubts.

I would like to share a small triumph with you all. I had to free one of the pipes that i had submerged below the concrete slab before the rockers came to hang the studio. Not only did I find the stub for the drainpipe where I thought it would be but it was free in no time. I had actually left enough room to slip the coupling in there and everything worked as planned. Nothing works as planned in my world so needless to say I am very pleased.
The finished vent with the waste wye turned into the wall to be revealed well after the final inspection (No I did not glue it)

Great looking Nektai. I haven't got the interior walls sheeted in mine yet. I will be going friday for that but I will be useing ply or partical board on mine. I will be putting it up later in the fall after I refloor the house. Its an older house and has NO sub-flooring. I will try to salvage the old floor to reinstall it

I fought to keep the Gov. in power......they keep screwing around I'll fight to get rid of them.
More projects and progress,
It was garage door day a few days ago. The installer came to install the overhead door while I built my sliding door. I wanted the two doors for better R value, noise suppression and I like the look of the slider.
The pre cut parts for my door
Assembled on the nice flat floor
Door on its tracks with the 2" foam in place
Siding attached and overhead door closed
Slider closed

The painters finished the job yesterday; here is how it went.
After a very expensive bid for the job we finally found a painter to do the job at a price and quality level that was acceptable to me. The first guy quoted a price $2100 more than the quote we went with, he justified the price by saying that he would go crazy with the prep. This hardly impressed me because his price didn't even include painting the concrete walls. It would have been such a waste.
I prepped for the painter by nocking the nibs off the concrete walls with a cold chisel and patching the holes with hydraulic cement. I had purchase a masonry wheel for my grinder so that I could grind the seems flush on the walls. Fortunately mother nature intervened with quite the storm and we lost power for the day. I am so glad I did not go down that road, it would have been messy and I bet the results would not have justified the work.
Primed and first top coat on Thursday
Finished on Friday and the painter threw in a second coat on the concrete for free.

Today is my sons third birthday but the festivities started a few days ago when the excavator showed up to trench for drain pipe and install the dry well.
Building code mandates drywells to manage storm water so i will be in great shape when I tie my slop sink into the system.
4" PVC from the four corners of the building to the drywell
8'x8' drywell

Next the skid steer showed up to finish the grading. I had moved tons of rock with a lever and fulcrum before they arrived so they could work without waiting on me. The result is that they were so impressed with my rock moving ability that they helped me move some big rocks to complete my walls.
This wraps up the work part of my contract with my builder. All that remains for him is paperwork. Hopefully he will present me with the certificate of compliance within the next few weeks. While I wait I am working on the trim and starting to gather materials for wiring the machines. I wont move in for a while but needless to say I am very excited!

Hello everyone,
I made a bit of progress today, the town sent out a different inspector and he wasted no time in approving the building!
All that remains is one field re-inspection for the electric , the contractor has to file the final papers, the Certificate of Compliance should then be issued and I can move in!
