Help With stringed instruments and my Yates planer

Post by mr douglas t »

I recently downloaded a manual to my Yates American J-180 Planer. Before tuning up the planer I need to know how to Tune a banjo. I ask this of Nico, because he raved about his planer running so well, so he must know the finer aspects of banjos, fiddles and guitars. Why you might ask, do I need to kow this? A quote from the manual under proper chain tension is.. "tension should be snug to just short of fiddle-string tightness" How does that compare to a violin, or a cello? How about a guitar, or possible a stand up base? Any help would be appreciated.

I think the difference between the fiddle and the violin is you want to tune the violin to sound good and the fidlle to shriek like a cat being whirled by it's tail. i remember hearing a quote once that went something like this: "a young once said to his father "father i would like to play buegrass music when I grow up" and the father replied " son you can do one or the other but it is impossble to do both" :P

Very funny- I missed the part about the musical instruments because my planer has a different drive system. I did find the settings for the top of the rollers, springs and pressure bars to be quite helpful although I still require a good coat of wax to get a perfect feed.

This thread is too funny to fall to the depths of the forum.
