I am wanting to buy a Yates 30" Snowflake. Any ideas?
Also I would consider looking at the Oliver and/or Tannewitz in the same size.
I live up in northern B.C. Canada far away from where many of these machines come from. Any help, leads, and suggestions from anyone on where to look or any "deals" out there would be greatly appreciated. I do not need a fully restored machine, but good, if not excellent working condition would be good. I can do some work, just don't want to have to re-build something once I get it here.
Am upgrading from my lovely little Oliver 18", which I may keep for smaller detail work. Just need a little more power and sawing capacity.
Thanks for any help and suggestions.
Looking for 30" bandsaw

Hey AC,
30" saws are great- nearly the same capacity as 36"ers, but quite a bit smaller. My 30" Tannewitz will resaw 17" and fits under an 8' ceiling. quite cool.
Unfortunately as you are probably finding out, the 30" saws are way less common than their 36" big brothers. It seems furniture factories rarely had 8' high ceilings.
I figure most 30" saws went to institutional settings. They were probably pretty popular in high school shops.
My 30" Tannewitz is complemented by my 18" oliver, definitely a great pair to have. Hopefully you will experience the same joy that I do from the combination.
Finding machines is always interesting, and adding shipping to BC makes any saw an expensive proposition. I would watch the usual suspects, IRS, eBay, HGR surplus, GovLiq etc. Unfortunately 30"ers seem to get more money than 36" saws.
Good luck, and let us know how you make out!
Pete

Take a look on ebay. There are two Oliver 217-D band saws being offered through Interschola school auctions. They are in San Francisco.
Good luck in your quest. Bill
