a machine, but...

Post by buck shot »

...not really.

I'm about to do some steam bending, and I think it's finally time to buy a proper moisture meter.

I know there are a half dozen different technologies available, but I'm having trouble finding good information about the pros and cons. The price ranges are so extreme, it's tough to know what's worthwhile and/or usable from a furniture maker's standpoint. (I've seen them from $100 to over $800)

Any suggestions or info sources?

I have one of the magnetic field cheapo- $89 when I bought it. seems to work ok, nothing to really compare it to. I like the fact that it doesn't leave pin holes so you can use it on any part of the wood, or even finished wood. I guess one of the downfalls is that it doesn't have great penetration.

I am not a super moisture addict. I think often it is best to not ask questions that you do not want to know the answers of........
