machine repair
after many years of edgebander resistance i finally gave in about 5 yrs ago and purchased a scmi b2 and never looked back, i was convinced at the time i needed dealer or mfg. support (or both) which made my decision to purchase from a dealer and pay significantly more than a private purchase. EVERY time i need support the end result is they do NOT have the parts in stock (in a warehouse in Italy) and the practical aspect of a "quick fix" with availabe parts eludes them, i actually have educated them in a least 3 repairs. Anyhow this could go on and on, the most recent is what i want to share with you. my machine is setup to feed and apply 7mm thick solid wood edgeband, initial feed is by a needle point feed wheel under pressure driven by a flexible coupling, the machine stops feeding, the flexible coupling is simply 1/4" steel cable 2 1/2" long with crimped ferrel ends held in place by two pc pinch deals, i contact dealer, he tells me they do not stock this part (warehouse in Italy) and do not intend to stock this part? by the time it gets to me 100 bucks and (2) weeks for pc. of cable. the "quick fix" cost .18 for (1) foot of cable and 1.99 for 18 Gardner Bender Electric Wire crimps. the dealer called yesterday curious why i had not ordered the part from them, do i tell them why and educate them once more?
It is so tempting to stick it to them and gloat about your quick cheap fix
.....but I might leave it alone if you have any warranty remaining, The last thing they want to hear is that there is a non OEM part on the machine- they could blame that for a multitude of errs.
Tell them it fixed itself if they call back......

no warranty issue, at this point i am so over the machinery dealer thing, guess they need to make a living too... but they fail to realize that they are selling a service being the parts dealer, we should simply deal directly with mfg (the warehouse in Italy in my case) back to work, alot more fun! not making much sense, good story though!
