RIT's Oliver Lathe on eBay

Post by crzypete »

An old friend on eBay.....

It's funny how times change. A number of us sweated to move this badboy into the shop. Now someone else can sweat to move it back out.

It sucked moving that thing in and I would hate to have to move it out. I wonder if it will sell?

It has a bid, so it will sell, the question is for how much? I would think there are not many oliver's that are 8' between centers around.

Final price: $1633.88.
I will try to post a picture for when the auction disapears. It was an oliver 20c babbit bearing machine with a nice retrofit transmission.

Lathe Leaves Today!

Post by jugadro »

So the good ol' Oliver beast leaves today. I'll try to remember to take photos of the move. I hope the ramp by the Bevier Gallery can take the weight! We can't get through the Ceramics studio due to their current configuration.

Can a truck pull up in-front of the gallery entrance or will the lathe have to be rolled to the parking lot? I am looking forward to the pictures of the lathe in transit.

We ran it out by the gallery. I backed the dude's trailer up the walkway and parked it in the tunnel between the photo (7B) and foundations (7A) buildings. Nobody bothers you when you have trucks - especially since RIT is constantly under construction. You can park pretty much anywhere. The move went super-smoothly - much easier than I had anticipated.

Photos are on the way!

I finally was able to track down some pics of the oliver lathe in its fully rebuilt condition. Thanks to Will, a current RIT student who forwarded these to me.

Nice rebuild job Brian.

Well ~ some changes,

Post by Bweick7 »

I was running the lathe and the motor blew up, the back legs fell off and it went through the shop floor down into the basement~ seriously,~
I moved the endex plate off of the drive spindle, when i started that thing , it literally sounds like an F15 starting her engins ~ so I bored out the center to accept the outboard shaft diamiter and a threaded hub is used to lock into place ~ much better and really quite now. I still have problems inserting ictures here, what do you do to get an mage off of your comp and into your thread.
