My theory was a shot in the dark. Your procedure sounds great, right down to the tape tag so you could lift the piece out. No way I would have thought of that!

Thanks Bill, this is a great thread! I have been thinking about the copper plating issue. I have seen a similar effect when one uses steel pliers or tweezers to grab the piece from the pickle pot. The contaminated acid would plate all of the non ferrous metals with copper. I should mention that I ha...

Hi Curt, I like your approach. I suspect that the 3 hp motor is probably a bit much but thats not an issue in my book as long as the RPM is right and the motor fits. These delta/rockwell units are numerous and well built so I am sure that you will be able to use the pulley that you found. I do not h...

Marvin, Yes my shop is always spotless in that photograph! The reality is that I have been cleaning for two weeks and I can only now see the floor!

Great to have you onboard! What is a RHCS? Some kind of screw head shape?

OK- now what is the plan? I have done such stupid things in the past on my smaller saws. Crowning tires is a major PITA.

Nice work Crzy.

My AEM 12" has undersized table ways and a replacement motor and drive for the table. Two areas that they could have improved. You WILL benefit from the work that you have done

Crzy,

I think you are remembering the recommendation differently than me. My memory is that it is a 3 or 4' 4 x 4 and no hammer. The wood is used as a battering ram to drive the wheel home.

I used this technique on my saw with a chunk of 16/4 I had lying around. It worked very well

I wanted to post my experience with the hydraulic brakes. Mine are in need of a rebuild again! The pistons on the lower wheel have bound up and the brake was partially engaged. My solution was to remove the assembly. Ugly but effective.

I would much prefer the mechanical brake system!

Great job!

I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the saw. Paint? Right into service? Does the metal shop need to be reshuffled to accommodate it?

EDIT: I see that a new post snuck in while I was writing mine. Almost all of my questions answered. It looks great!

How long would it take to stop if you disabled the brake? I did not know that the soft stop was an option. Very cool

Looking forward to seeing the pieces go back together
