Thanks, Crzypete. I haven't yet been setting up the machines in the big barn - although they are currently residing there. Trying to decide if I should go the route that you did with the new studio. We'll have to see. The Bandsaw is a 19?? 36" Tannewitz GH from the late great Moosehead Furnitur...

A thing of beauty...

Newly listed on ebay is this Berlin 4 head Surfacer Planer! Truly a beautiful piece. Hopefully this beast won't end up in the molten iron boiler (or as an iron boiler!). Thanks Matt C. for the link! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220233651305&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA...

Saw this on Government Liquidations auctions... ... kinda reminds me of Wendell's. This would be perfect in crzypete's new shop! Opening bid $50 bucks baby - we can use my trailer! http://cgi.govliquidation.com/auction/view?id=1680281&convertTo=USD http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/jugadro/m...

Why thank you, mr douglas t. Right back atcha! I see you recently obtained a nice Cincinnati mill yourself! I find it absolutely amazing how light and manuverable these cast giants become when you throw an iron pipe under 'em! I'm in full force working on the metal-working studio right now. It's an ...

Junkie?

Ok... Maybe I've been denying it - at least perhaps subconsciously for a while now. ...suppose I should just say it. I think I'm a machine junkie. Hooray! Saturday was Bridgeport Day! It even came with tooling and a free Bosch Router! This is the one tool I vowed to obtain for my shop someday. I mus...

Oliver 199

Hi Leah, I'd sell everything for around $100... and only to someone with DREADLOCKS! Hahaha - just kidding. I was fortunate to be the designated purchaser of the machine. Thank you Leah for all of your help. And thankfully, someone replaced the clamshell cutterhead at some point with a more modern s...

SawStoppie

Funny I was talking about the sawstop today with a friend of mine and he said that the saw will go off/fire if you run a board with gold leaf on it. I thought it was interesting. The SawStop has a manual override switch for a "Bypass Mode" - This allows the saw to cut aluminum and other c...

Ahhh yes, I remember now that you suggested FANTASTIK when we were up there visiting you. The lathe is a David W. Pond and I just posted a thread on it HERE . I'm super excited. The book that you gave me has been EXTREMELY helpful, especially in identifying the various parts. Thanks again so much! I...

So I up n' gotst me a lathe

A couple weekends ago, my father and I ventured up to Avon, Maine for an auction. It was the estate of an old machinist (more like a jack-of-ALL-trades), and in one word, it was "superb." The place was on the edge of a small grassy air strip named Lindbergh field after the infamous pilot w...

Degreasing...?

I recently bought a new metalworking lathe at an auction, and it came with it's own perservative; 100 years of caked on oil & grease. I am about to undergo a thorough cleaning, but I don't quite know what to use. Regular soap & water? Heavy-Duty engine degreaser? Any tips would be swell. Tha...

I haven't done much since - Unfortunately, Santa also brought with him THE FLU! I've been down for the count since Saturday night. A peek outside now and again to make sure it's still there has been the extent of our newfound relationship. Probably won't get new pics till after the move to Maine - w...

Santa stopped in...

I was out in the kitchen, cleaning the floor When all of a sudden came a knock at the door. I ran to the window, but couldn't quite see So I peeked out the door, then fell to my knee. I couldn't believe it, my face I was slapping But as I got closer, I could see through the wrapping. http://i5.photo...

Lathe Leaves Today!

So the good ol' Oliver beast leaves today. I'll try to remember to take photos of the move. I hope the ramp by the Bevier Gallery can take the weight! We can't get through the Ceramics studio due to their current configuration.
