I should have been more specific. Yes, a vacuum bag press. I have a variety of bags depending on what I am pressing as well as a variety of platens. One bag and platen is dedicated to flat work. The others are of various size depending on the bent lamination. Bags are easy to make with the clear vin...

Hey Nico, A bag press would work well for this application if you have one. You would want to use a pallet sized to the form and fill the void at the center of your form so the bag does not get sucked in at that point. Another option, favored by some of my fellow school alumni, is a fire hose filled...

Pete, Thanks for the ideas... My window of opportunity for such experiments has closed a bit, but when I get a chance to spend sometime on it I will let you know what seems to be the method. A few minutes with a wire brush did reveal that the black paint/primer easily comes off in some spots while a...

My first Oliver
I found this pattern makers lathe on craigslist in Kansas. A very accommodating seller made the transaction and shipping relatively easy with an excellent crating job to boot. The lathe bed and moving carriage is model 19 from the late 20's the the head and tailstock is a model 51-K. I have to imagi...

I too am one of those gardeners though perhaps not a junkie. Nothing beats picking your dinner though... This was the first year I tried raised beds with a mix of compost, peat moss and vermiculite...worked better than in past years with the crappy soil we have in our area. About you compost mix wha...

Thought I should rap up this thread. As it turns out the switch was full of dust and not making a good connection when engaged. A good blow with compressed air solved the problem. I should have thought of that sooner. Never did figure out the voltage issues but decide that since it seems to be worki...

Where does one buy such a fancy clock for such a fair price? i have been relying on a radio shack hygrometer but that looks like one fine instrument. I am guessing 10 minutes but that includes standing back and admiring the job, a quick dusting off and coiling the cord back up for return to the cent...

So I have finally gotten around to working on the sander again. I recieved and installed a new AEG starter rated w/ the proper amperage. Plug it in and it works... sort of. Turn the switch for the drive motor and the belt goes round and round. Even in the right direction on the first try. Turn the t...

As it turns out I rewired the motors for 254v delta. and gave it the college try. Nothing. I then took apart the starter. Through Nico's link I spoke with supplier that referred me to AEG tech support. Inside the starter there is a low voltage trip activated by the emergency stop button. This trip c...

Thanks to much help and consultation from mr douglas I believe I can avoid using transformer all together. Both motors appear to be dual voltage- 440 wye/ 254 delta. This was confirmed by a lasm dealer in new milford. I assuming that when I rewire the leads in the motors they will be configured in d...

I thought I would try to post a picture to give a sense of the machine. All though is not American big iron it is industrial strength. Pete, I will take a look at how many wires are in the motor junction box in the morning If it cane be wired for 220v that would be the best case. Otherwise it is off...

Voltage transformer
Hello fellow junkies. I recently purchased an edge sander. The machine looks to be in good condition and the only problem is it requires 3ph 440v.I knew this when I bought it and perhaps it why I got it for such a good price. Anyway, in order to fire it up I need a transformer to convert my existing...

Not sure about the german machines but while training in england I used a older wadkin combo for several years, great machine and very robust. I also had the pleasure of using a 510mm smc combo in a shop that I rented for a while. That was an older machine as well and very heavy duty with fairly lon...

Hey Guzziguy Having just moved my shop in december I learned a few things. The move was 20 miles and took 4 trips in a small 15 box truck over 2 days. The only truck that would fit down the drive way. Lesson 1- forklift at both ends. I could have hired a rigger, it would cost about 5k to do the move...
