Junkie?

Post by jugadro »

Ok...
Maybe I've been denying it - at least perhaps subconsciously for a while now.
...suppose I should just say it.

I think I'm a machine junkie.

Hooray!
Saturday was Bridgeport Day!
It even came with tooling and a free Bosch Router!
This is the one tool I vowed to obtain for my shop someday. I must admit - it was my favorite while in school.
Now it's mine...
Mine...
ALL MINE...
MUAHAHAHAAAAA!

A very nice auisition. Congradulations..

I believe CRZY Pete has a formula for the "Weight Per square foot" (ratio of cast iron tonage to square feet in ones shop). A bridgeport certainly gets that number up quickly.

I left school with your same thoughts. A bridgeport and an Oliver 166 are a must.

Why thank you, mr douglas t.
Right back atcha! I see you recently obtained a nice Cincinnati mill yourself!
I find it absolutely amazing how light and manuverable these cast giants become when you throw an iron pipe under 'em!

I'm in full force working on the metal-working studio right now. It's an old garage separate from the wood working "facility."
Aside from furniture making, my other hobby is old cars - so I needed a place I can drive the ol' beasts into for fab work.

I think I may be catching up quickly to you and crzypete!

Picked this up last fall:

Nice acquisitions, but even though a picture is worth a thousand words, I think I need a few more actual words to fully enjoy. How bout some stats?

Is that a 30" or 36" Tanny? My best guess from the pics is 36".

How about some bridgeport specs? Powerfeed? table size? condition?

I agree that the dream leaving RIT was having a bridgeport, an Oliver 166, and also for me, a hammond saw.

I happen to know you are at least 2/3's of the way to that dream. Have you been setting up the wood machines in the big barn? Plenty of space in there.

BTW nice trailer.

Thanks, Crzypete.
I haven't yet been setting up the machines in the big barn - although they are currently residing there. Trying to decide if I should go the route that you did with the new studio. We'll have to see.

The Bandsaw is a 19?? 36" Tannewitz GH from the late great Moosehead Furniture of northern Maine. It came with a huge .500 inch aluminum table topper - as sen in the pics. There were a couple other ancient mods that I'll have to undo to bring it back to original. Very fun to move - Thanks to Richard N. for great moving tips and my Dad for the help!

The Bridgeport is in amazing condition. The label says it is a 550 volt 3 phase rig, so a little electrical engineering or a new motor is in order. I think it has a 3 foot bed - no power feed.

As for the trailer, it is a 2003 Cross Country upgraded to 14,000lb GVW.
My Dad and I went "halve-sies" on (for $1K each) and it has totally already paid for itself. I now LOVE electric brakes - not to mention it's a new law for dual axle trailers here in Maine.
