Dave,

Great saw and a great story. I have had lunch at that restaurant and I can tell by your parking spot that you probably had a perfect view of your new toy while you had lunch!

Allen,

I have a couple of questions for you. Is there a resource for current standards in terms of guarding machines like tablesaw, jointer ect. What size of operations are you consulting for/ getting inspected by osha?

Allen, I have seen the saw used for just that purpose and think that it is a use that the saw was originally designed for. Wood blocks and type were an integral part of the printing industry. Obviously it is an old saw and I am sure that there are some modern saws that approach the usefulness of the...

Allen, I am out of town and away from my saws so someone else will have to fill in the story with actual pictures. The saws come with two guards. There is variety from year to year. The general idea is one guard that covers the blade from above. That guard is suited to woodworking up to a point. For...

Dave,

I hope to make the show and see it all in person! Crzy might remember the name of the museum near white river junction with all of the metal lathes. I think they should own this for their collection! If not them is cinci still in business?

I have a 13" AEM. Its a slight variation on Petes. I cant recall which one is older? Mine has a single dust port in the back of the belt that exits straight out of the top of the machine. I have the pneumatic belt tension option that Pete mentioned in the above post. My machine had been used fo...

Thanks for the pictures and the suggestions. I am not sure about the vacuum bag technique for this project. That said I am very intrigued with Toms method of building custom bags. I suspect I would use my set up more often if I had a custom bag or two lying around. I built my pump from parts and the...

OT- Clamps for bent laminations

I have a commission to revisit one of my pieces with a number of bent parts. I put in a quote to get the biggest ones steam bent but the price was a tad off the mark. I was looking at 1000 bucks per bend! They are complicated but not that crazy. Here is my thought. I will do the laminations myself. ...

I have a 2 hp farm duty Baldor on mine. I bought it years ago for about $150. If I recall I might have changed the drive pulley because the motor was a different speed. I will have to take a look.

congratulations, its a great saw

Nice saw Dave!

You are off to a good start, I am still living in pica, with an imperial ruler.

The storage on the right side of the saw caught my attention. I imagine that is a Hammond part? Is it for the tools or the lead type?

Welcome Preston, I haven't broken mine down into moveable parts. I would think that you could get the motor off and possibly the complete sliding table unit too. I would think that those three parts would be much easier to move. My question is the trunion. I think it is its own unit that is better l...

I do not know much about hepa filters. How about doing the whole operation outside so Mother Nature could absorb the lead that the vacuum may or may not put out. That may be the best option followed by a wipe down.

Hi Dan, I might not use the vac. I am not sure what a Hepa filter would do but I have heard horror stories about the exhaust distributing the hazardous material everywhere. Perhaps paper towel moistened with paint thinner or denatured alcohol to remove and dispose of that layer of lead. That is prob...

Tom,

In my very limited experience with old Olivers I would say that the black is more of an underbody filler/primer.

I would try to nick the flakes off with a putty knife and then make a decision how crazy you want to go

OT- HVLP Spray Gun

I was wondering if my fellow junkies had any advice about spray equiptment. I spray water based finishes made by Target Coatings. I had been using a devilbis Finish Line 2 gun which has gotten a bit tired. I was thinking of replacing it with the FLG 3 as seen here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/...
