Hey TMT, Congrats on the saw! The B3 is a normally a cast iron base saw that is a beast. You restimate in weight is probably a bit low even with the motor removed. A vintage printing sales publication that I have lists the G4 as weighing 440lbs. That has a fabricated 3/16" sheet metal base. The...

I would guess that the nuts are too tight on the taper pins that hold the whole arbor assembly to the saw. The nuts are really only there to pull those pins out. If they get over tightened, they defeat the purpose of the taper pins which perfectly position that assembly. I'd loosen all of that and c...

Dan, Thanks for the documenting of this process. i am sure it will be helpful to others down the line who want to achieve this conversion. Glad to hear the arbor is working better. As to lining up the ruler, here is how I do it: First take a six inch rule and get it so the finger is adjusted to cutt...

Dang, 5 hours? Did they actually cut the acme thread rather than using a piece of existing bar? I'm not sure how they used all that time, I am not a machinist and could pull that off way faster. I have sympathy for your wallet. As to the nut Firstly I believe mcmaster has started shipping to canadia...

Dan, The clamp isn't the most useful accessory for woodworking- I rarely use mine. Although i appreciate that they would be essential for cutting small pieces of type. They do come up for sale now and again. I'm pretty sure the clamps were standard equipment. As far as the motor is concerned. Unless...

Hi Dan, Congrats on the saw! you should be quite happy with your purchase. How is the condition now that you have it in person? No doubt they are heavy- ballpark 450 lbs by catalog weight. to answer some od your bullet questions. 1. Why does it matter whether the gauge moves .166044 inches per rev o...

Dan, I'm not sure how to find that old post, but I think the gist of it was using a tool on a metal lathe to scratch the line, then indexing. (very basic recount of what was a brilliant and well done post!) Let us know if you find it, I will update the link. Now onto the conversion- I'm so curious t...

I didn't answer the finger scale removal. it is attached with two socket head cap screws from below the table and two taper pins. The extension table is attached to it. pretty quick to remove.

For starters here's the G100 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hammond-Glider-Trimosaw-Letterpress-Make-Up-Saw-/171210960629 and here's the G4b http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hammond-Glider-Trim-O-Saw-/191025696575 The G100 was the newer of the two and was the final ultimate incarnation of the Hammonds. Nice saw. I always thought those bench gliders were so cute.

As an odd aside, I used to own the next serial number saw from this one 9797.

Hi Mike, I split your post off to give you your own thread. Congrats on the saw, you will love it. I never worried about the weight of the motor on the G4's, but I did change the motor tensioning system a little bit. The way Hammond engineered it was a bolt with a spring, but I found that bounced to...

Today I had a few minutes to work on the router. The top housing for the motor had one tab broken off. This negated the two set-screws which lock it in place. Somewhere along the line, someone used duct tape to hold the cover in place, I was hoping for a slightly more elegant repair. First step was ...

Bill, This one seems to be as small as they run which is nice in terms of fitting it into the shop. But something about buying it makes me want to be more cnc savvy. The freq is old school technology to do what modern VFD's do. It takes 60hz and turns it into 420hz! That is 7 times the hz. That seem...

Wadkin UR pin router

I recently became interested in overhead pin routers and promptly had a Wadkin UR fall into my lap. It is a very compact machine as pin routers go. I drove to Rochester yesterday to pick-up the Wadkin. What a trip! It was a perfect day, not a cloud in the sky- except over Syracuse where it was compl...

Sounds useful. It's probably an open motor which is less desirable as they tend to suck dust through them. Would probably make a fine air compressor motor- provided it spins the correct way.

Dana, welcome to the forum.

I think the pully is bigger, although its hard to measure without pulling the guard off. More on the nature of 5" plus in diameter. The blades ran a bit slow as woodworking saws, so the larger the pulley, the better if you are cutting wood.
