I think the loom might be a tad out of my price range, but given the eBay value- via the auction you sent me, why not list it there? 8)

the main difference between the Ben Franklin and the Mercury is the mecury has a handcrank to raise and lower the blade while the ben franklin kinda swings with a lock-knob.

I'll scan pics tonight.

Oliver nameplate repaint

Yes I know I am stupid, but you already knew that as well. When my new to me Oliver 399 planer arrived some moron had painted over the brass oliver nameplate. Well you knew I could not let that stay. So After initial attempts at scraping the paint, I decided a quick half hour in my dunk tank with so...

Yeah, that's pretty damn fast- even with a VFD you couldn't slow it down that much- definitely is a spindle lathe.
So tempting at $100, but those were certainly not oliver's flagship machine.

they built a ton for schools and they are everywhere.

I have never had aclear idea of the hammond dates for any of them. the Mercury was offered alongside the glider as the middle level model. the intro-level model being the Ben franklin. I will try to post some catalog pics.

I still want one of those nines. havng been into the cutterhead on the 399 I Thin...

Hammond Lore

It strikes me strangely that the rest of the wood world regards the hammond saw by the crappy fine woodworking article on the saw. Perhaps it is time to start a new legend.

Actually, I put that chinsy dust hood back on- considering it is a 3" port it actually works surprising well. But the upgrade is definitely in the works.....

I think I will try to copy an original oliver hood. I'll post a pic.
