Hi, Pete, Thanks for the reply. The DP came with a very nice chuck. I've just found any adapter introduces some additional eccentricity or leverage on the system. I want to use #2MT bits where possible and #1 with an adapter after that. The #1MT adapter fits inside the #2, whereas the #3 adapter is ...

Rescue of an Avey drill press with a Plymouth transmission
Even though I didn't need it, this hundred-year-old Avey was just too well-made to see it go for scrap. The three-speed Mopar transmission addition is interesting, but will have to go. It does give twelve speeds forward and four in reverse. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_hjClShMv-nQ/SvzUWuevrhI/AAAAAAAACW0/e...

Unique Combination Machine - ever seen a Reypo?
Found this little jewel and just had to have it. A Reypo Combination Lathe, Drill Press, Grinder and Table Saw - it is just a really unique design with some clever features. It has even more presence on the bench than in the photos. The main body with motor weighs all I could carry. The table saw/gr...

My ATF is completely different than the one this guy has. Mine has a square-pyramid-shaped base, fixed table and the micro-adjustable square slides in a slot in the table. Mine does have the same small fence as that in the photos, which OP says came from another saw. The more I play with it, the mor...

The ATF is taller than the Hammond, doesn't have the sliding table and as mentioned, has a double-ended arbor. I picked it up off craigslist just to play with it and will be passing it along soon, if anyone is really interested. Pretty rusty, but I should have the table run through the shot blaster ...

ATF saw
Anyone here familiar with the American Type Founders trim saw? It has a double-ended arbor, a hinged-at-the-rear table section. thnx, jack vines http://lh3.ggpht.com/_hjClShMv-nQ/Sf9jYxYYm1I/AAAAAAAAATU/D3Z4G_Q6FY0/s640/PICT0597.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_hjClShMv-nQ/Sf9jZPBZveI/AAAAAAAAAXA/AkbkMsDHp...

Two thoughts: 1. If machinery prices are cheap now, just wait until we boomers start dying off in large numbers. The guys coming along behind us have less than no interest in tools, hotrods or classic cars. Our widows will have trouble giving away the stuff we tried to convince them were investments...

FWIW, that Baldor 3hp motor will probably last forever in your application. It is designed to need cooling air moving over it when it is fully loaded to 3hp in continuous duty. It is functionally next-to-impossible to load it like that a Hammond like that unless you choose to rip a truckload of 8/4 ...
