Well, I answered my own question a bit I guess. Apparently you clamp a file in it to dress handsaw teeth. Does anyone have practical experience using one? Here's a good link about it . BTW, these came out of a homestead in interior Alaska, including several cabins built of local logs and hand-milled...

Hand saw jointers? Need help ID'ing these

Does anyone recognize these? Any clues or knowledge of how they would get used?
Thanks,

Hi dereykpatterson, nektai, crzypete: I just wanted to let you all know that this G-4 is now home in interior Alaska. Pete gave it quite the tune-up. It is a pleasure to have and use. I owe all of you guys for helping to get it into my hands. If I find some time I'll try to post some follow-up pics,...

I'm enjoying this project report, Pete. Following this makes me appreciate all the other restored and rehabilitated machines in your shop.

What do you think those guys would make of CNC, CAD, and 3-D printers? (or other similar modern advances, such as hearing protection and eye protection!)

Definitely enjoyed seeing those. Thanks.

Hi Carl,

I think you came to the right place. Pete or one of the others should be along momentarily...

Good luck with the Hammond. I happen to be looking for one myself.

DP - thank you for fixing the photos. Not sure how you did that but it makes it a lot easier to view the posts. Easiest method for me is to open your source image in it's own window. (Control+click on a mac, or right click (I think) on a pc, gets you to that option) Then just copy the url and paste...

4328- I took the liberty of making it easier on folks to see your photos. Hope you and Pete don't mind. Nice stack of posts in the background, BTW. I do a bit of that myself. -DP http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z470/btframes/DSC_0041.jpg http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z470/btframes/DSC_0046...

Pete-

I just thought you might want to view this project more holistically in the grand universal cycle of Wear-it-down and Build-it-up.

More importantly, did you notice that your dust bin handle is the spitting image of our kitchen cabinet handles?

Nice before & after series.

Now your challenge will be to use it enough so that it is back to looking like the "before" condition.

Pete: I'll go with your downward estimate. That was pretty much of a WAG based on too many times picking up and moving all the parts.

Thanks for the .02

I 'm sorry I don't have pics yet, but I'll try to get some. The saw in the thread is about where I'd hoped it would be when I started: -Disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled major components -Refurbished base -New bearings on the arbor -New on/off switch -New wiring with BX cable -New raise/tilt ha...

Decent mobile machine bases??

I tried a quick search but didn't find this topic previously covered here. I'm looking for a mobile base for my table saw- I'm estimating the saw at maybe 600#, with a footprint of about 16" x 28" It sits on a pretty clean, smooth concrete slab. Been looking at some of the options on Amazo...

Well, thanks to a very accommodating seller, I am going to get the eBay top after all.

Before any of you decide to move your shop to Alaska, call me for an earful about shipping headaches and local parts availability.

The tablesaw in this thread has now been brought into the indoor shop to thaw out (it was -37F in the garage this week). Once thawed, it was disassembled into its major components, and cleaned. So far I've managed to obey Pete's cardinal rule #1, "Don't brake nuthin". Today I scored an ide...

Well, I certainly defer to you on that Pete. I did note that the article is more than 10 years out of date, but maybe it was hooey back then too. More importantly, how would you pimp out the switches on my 34-643 if it was your saw? Small project update as well- I scored a set of Delta handles on eB...
