I have a 2 hp 3450 rpm motor that I plan to put on my Hammond for woodcutting. Might even be overkill for cutting wood with this little saw. What is the best rpm for cutting wood? I have a woodcutting blade from The Blade Mfg Co. I also have a nice new iron 3" pulley that will give me 4400 rpm. But if I need to go faster, I can get another pulley.

I would start out with that pulley and see how you like the performance. There is great variety in rams of table saws if you account that the different diameter blades are spun at similar rpm's.

I have heard many complain about the standard hammond speed being too slow, but I have never had any issues myself. I do run slightly larger blades most of the time which does increase the cutting speed, so perhaps that is my solution to speeding things up a bit.

I went with a pulley that I already had and it gave me 4839 rpm, which seems like a good speed so far. I made some initial test cuts and was impressed.
